All ACVP members and non-members recently received an email message sharing information about the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and requesting consent for ACVP to retain and manage your personal data. The purpose of GDPR is to protect the privacy of individual residents of EU countries by giving them control of how and for what purposes their personal data is collected, stored, maintained, processed, purchased, sold, transferred and used. The Regulation also applies to US residents residing in the EU and EU residents working in the US.
ACVP is an international professional society with members worldwide and a nonprofit organization with budget limitations. Given these factors, the ACVP Council concluded it necessary to apply GDPR compliance practices to all ACVP stakeholders (members, annual meeting attendees, students, residents, examination candidates). Penalties for non-compliance are severe and there is legal precedent for international law affecting US organizations. Our goal is to ensure the stability of ACVP.
