Traveling into the U.S. / Requesting Invitation Letters
Passports, regardless of the type, must be valid for six months past the expected stay in the United States. This is a requirement for all categories of passports - regular, diplomatic, and official - when the traveler is seeking to enter the United States for business or tourist purposes, for a maximum of 90 days.
Visa Waiver Program
All prospective VWP travelers must obtain pre-travel authorization via U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) ESTA system prior to boarding a plane or ship bound for the United States.
Citizens and nationals of VWP countries can apply for an ESTA on CBP’s website. ESTA is used to determine eligibility to travel without a visa to the United States under the VWP. Travelers who do not receive an approved ESTA must apply for a visa at the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate prior to travel to the United States. Although an approved ESTA is generally valid for a period of two years, travelers should check their ESTA status on CBP’s website prior to travel.
Here are some travel-visa-related links from the U.S. government that will help you in preparing for the application:
It is recommended that after gathering basic information, you contact the nearest U.S. Embassy/ Consulate to establish the application process, schedule an interview, and any other region specific requirements. Here is a link to websites of U.S. Embassies, Consulates, and Diplomatic Missions.
