In an effort to increase the awareness of veterinary students about the different career opportunities in veterinary pathology and to generate more interest in the discipline, the ACVP in conjunction with the  Student Chapter Committee is recognizing the formation of Student Chapters of the ACVP at individual veterinary schools.

The ACVP and the Student Chapters Committee will recognize domestic and international veterinary student pathology clubs according to the following selection criteria:

Accreditation by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).

Submission of a letter of support from an on-site pathology faculty advisor who is a Diplomate of the ACVP.

Submission of Constitution and Bylaws for approval. Model Constitution and Bylaws should be customized by the applicants for their schools.

Contact information for current officers and advisors.

*Application materials should be submitted to the ACVP Student Chapter Committee Chair, Sophie Aschenbroich, and a copy to Jane Shepard.

Benefits of ACVP Student Chapters
Upon approval of the Student Chapters' constitutions and bylaws by the ACVP Student Chapter Committee and the Board of Directors, recognition includes:

  • Official charter for the chapter and official recognition of the faculty advisors provided by the ACVP.
  • The use of “Student Chapter of the ACVP” as a club name.
  • A Facebook page for student chapter members. Visit today!
  • One annual electronic subscription of Veterinary Pathology as well as Toxicologic Pathology from the Society of Toxicologic Pathology for each chapter.

ASVCP Student Seminar Stipend
North American veterinary colleges that have an ACVP board-certified clinical pathologist are eligible to receive a student seminar stipend once every three years. Please note that these seminars must be led by an ACVP board-certified clinical pathologist. This stipend can be used towards food, door prizes, and other supplies that the Student Chapter at each school sees suitable. Student Chapters can apply for this stipend by contacting Dr. Kate Baker. Relevant forms are available here.
