Dear Members and Affiliates of the ACVP Community:
We write to you with grief during an already challenging time. Recently, we have witnessed senseless acts of violence against Black communities. The terrible loss of life resulting from racial violence (recently of George Floyd in Minneapolis, and before that of Sean Reed, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery) is disheartening and against the values that the ACVP, as an institution, upholds and cherishes.
Unfortunately, these events are not outliers, and underscore the issues of racism, inequality, and injustice that have affected our society throughout history. These tragic events further compound the already challenging situation created by the coronavirus pandemic, in which communities of color have been disproportionately affected.
The ACVP firmly rejects and condemns racism and all other forms of hatred, hostility, injustice, and discrimination. In rejecting these sentiments, we ask that we all come together to seek racial justice and end race-based oppression and discrimination.
It is apparent that the only way we can end this violence is by being continuously watchful, and unifying against discrimination and hatred. While the underlying systemic problems are complex and require complex solutions, we can all do our part.
In times like these it is more important than ever that we exercise compassion with each other, and with ourselves. If you or someone you know needs support during these challenging times, please seek out help [See Link 1 below]. Additionally, there are numerous anti-racism and anti-bias informational resources [See Link 2 below].
The ACVP firmly believes that diversity in our community makes us stronger. As such, we stand in our commitment to advance diversity, inclusion, and equity in all forms.
