ACVP Pre-Meeting Workshop

Practical Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Veterinary Pathology: User Experiences
Session Co-Chairs:

Chandra Saravanan, DVM, MS, PhD, DACVP, Novartis, Cambridge, MA

Melissa Schutten, DVM, PhD, DACVP, Genentech, South Francisco, CA

On behalf of ACVP Pathology Informatics Education Committee

Pathology practice is undergoing a transformation with widespread adaptation of whole slide imaging. Big data, because of digitization of whole slides, warrants application of modern computational tools such as machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze, mine, and integrate data with high precision and objectivity. ML/AI has already shown some promises in this space. However, such modern computational tools cannot be viewed as a replacement for pathologists, rather need adequate guidance by skilled pathologists for careful and enhanced level of interpretation. In this workshop, the ACVP pathologists will present on practicalities of utilizing the emerging field of computational pathology and AI. The audience will have an opportunity to gain insights into potential applications, benefits, and limitations of existing AI technology.
