Description of Externship:
Summer externships are excellent opportunities for students to learn a great deal about companion animal pathology and become familiar with the day to day functions of the pathology department. Students visiting the pathology department typically attend daily necropsy service with staff pathologists, residents, and interns. Students are encouraged to become involved in cases and follow through with histologic and cytologic evaluations. Pathologists are available for one-on-one teaching in the necropsy room and at our multi-head microscope. Surgical biopsy specimens are evaluated daily and students are encouraged to spend time reviewing cases with the duty pathologist. In addition, teaching slide sets are available for individual study and the AMC library is open daily to review of textbooks and current literature. Students are also encouraged to complete a small research project, based on a topic of their choice and with guidance from the staff, during their time in the department.

Stipend: No
Housing: Provided by institution. Estimated housing cost: $100/week.
