Not provided by institution. Estimated housing cost: $400/month.
Description of Externship:
The core program is necropsy examination of all species with review of the histopathology of these cases and biopsy samples with the pathologist on duty. The student can observe testing in bacteriology, virology, and toxicology as well, and assist with clinical pathology samples (cytologies). Self-study microslides are available. Occasional poultry field trips and a weekly afternoon visit to the local zoo can be arranged. The student will be assisted in arranging housing at the medical school dormitory or a nearby furnished apt. The experience will be meaningful to any veterinary student, but those who have completed their school's pathology training will benefit the most.
