Description of Externship:
AFIP veterinary pathology externs observe and/or participate in all of the formal training sessions of our residency training program. These sessions include systemic pathology, gross pathology, surgical pathology case sign-outs, Wednesday Slide Conference and small group study sessions. In any remaining time, externs are able to use our extensive collection of gross and histopathology self-study training materials. Externs often accompany AFIP residents to assist the pathologists at the National Zoological Park. September through May are the best times for externships because we have a break from formal training in the summer.
