January 12, 2011

The Department of Pathology and Microbiology, Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island, is offering a three-year residency/graduate program in Clinical Pathology.  The first two years of the program will consist of residency training and completion of a non-thesis Master of Veterinary Science (MVSc) degree.  If progress is deemed satisfactory, the resident will continue into a final year of training, consisting primarily of diagnostic service experience.

The primary emphasis of this program is to provide the resident with diagnostic experience over a three year period to qualify for certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP), with the graduate training strengthening critical thinking and research skills.  Participation in the undergraduate pathology teaching program is required and publication of MVSc research and case reports is strongly encouraged.

Applicants must possess a DVM or equivalent qualification.  Previous clinical experience is desirable but not required. Concurrent application for admission to the AVC graduate program is recommended, as successful admission is required for appointment.
