Description of Externship:

We conduct approximately 1800 Necropsies and 34,000 Surgical Biopsies each year.  Case material derives from the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, private practitioners, the National Park Service and private individuals.  The anatomic pathology groups consists of 9 board certified anatomic pathologists and 7 anatomic pathology residents.

Activities include participation in post-mortem practicum with CSU Senior Veterinary Students, attendance at weekly Rad/Path rounds, observation of surgical biopsy diagnosis with pathology faculty and residents and study of histopathology slide sets. Extern will mimic residency activity by constructing reports for two necropsy and two biopsy reports. During spring and fall terms, externs attend & observe weekly bio-analytical and microscopic pathology slide seminar and surgical pathology & gross pathology courses.

Externs must be vaccinated against Rabies. Externships will be filled on a first come basis and limited to 2 at a time.  The summer months are typically in highest demand, so early application is encouraged.  Applications must include a CV & letter of intent.
