Orthopedic Pathology - Fifty Years On: Revisiting 22 Classic Entities from
the 1958 ACVP Meeting on Skeletal Disease
Session Chair: Bruce Williams, DVM*
Chair, AFIP Telemedicine, Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, Rockville, MD
In 1958, the American College of Veterinary Pathologists held a day-long-serminar
on "Skeletal Diseases". Many of the legends of veterinary pathology
participated in this conference, including T.C. Jones, Charles Davis, Peter
Olafson, Peter Kennedy, Leon Saunders, and more. Fifty years later, in 2008,
Dr. Steve Weisbrode and Dr. Roy Pool and a host of guest presenters will
review these cases, using much of the original materials, to reveal what
we have learned in the last 50 years on 22 classic entities. It's a look
into the past and present that no one should miss. Attendees will receive
a copy of the CD containing the transcript of the original meeting with original
kodachromes, references, and biographies of the original presenters.
$175 provides attendees with 8 hours of RACE-accredited continuing education,
refreshments, syllabus, and a DVD set with the transcript and 260 images
from the 1958 symposium, biographies of the original presenters, and 23 virtual
slides of the entities presented in 1958 and 2008.

Post-Meeting Workshop III
Morphometrics and Analytical Applications in Digital Microscopy
Session Chair: Bruce Williams, DVM*
Chair, AFIP Telemedicine, Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, Rockville, MD
With recent advances in digital imaging and the advent of virtual slides,
advanced imaging techniques and analytical algorhythms are becoming commonplace
in all areas of diagnostic and toxicologic pathology. Automatic measurements
of cells as well as non-cellular components in tissue, quantification of
immunohistochemical staining, rare event detection, and color deconvolution
in the analysis of differential staining are tools that are now available
to the bench pathologist. This seminar will cover the basics of these
technologies as well as highlight current applications by leading researchers
in this area.
