Christopher T. Starost Memorial Oncology Scholarship Christopher T. Starost Memorial Oncology ScholarshipThis scholarship is established by Dr. and Mrs. Matthew Starost in memory of their brother Christopher T. Starost – a large, boisterous man with a big heart. Basis of Award: The scholarship(s) will be presented to a candidate(s) who has demonstrated outstanding written and verbal skills through a poster presentation at the ACVP Annual Meeting. The poster must deal with an aspect of oncological research that can be translated into human cancer pathogenesis, prevention, treatment and/or diagnosis. Recipient: The recipient must be currently enrolled/employed in a residency program, veterinary school or graduate degree program at the time of presentation of the award. A recipient shall only receive one scholarship. Recipients may not re-apply in latter years for the scholarship again. **Scholarships may not be awarded in a given year if the judges deem that the presentations do not meet the basic requirements and/or the quality of the presentations is not satisfactory. If no recipient is chosen during a given year, the scholarship money will be carried over to the following year. At the discretion of the Starost family, the scholarship amounts may increase and/or the number of scholarships may increase. Presenters must be available at their poster display during the Focused Poster Session on Tuesday, December 5 from 12:00 noon-1:30 p.m. To apply for this scholarship, check the appropriate box on the abstract submission form (available on the website May 1, 2006). A recipient shall only receive one Starost scholarship, but the same poster can compete in both Starost and YIA competitions simultaneously. Applicants must register and attend the ACVP Annual Meeting. If you have any questions about this award, please contact Jane Shepard (meetings@acvp.org) at the ACVP Executive Office. 2006 ACVP Veterinary Student Poster AwardACVP is offering an award for veterinary students which requires submission of an abstract and a quality poster presentation of pathology-related research or case work material at the 2006 Annual Meeting. The posters will be judged by Student Chapter Sub-Committee representatives during the Annual Meeting in Tucson on December 2-6, 2006. Entitled the “Student Poster Award”, the criteria for submission are as follows:
•Individuals or groups eligible for this competitionmust be currently enrolled veterinary students. The poster must present original work of the competitor or group completed during the period of student training. There will be two awards in 2006 – one for an experimental disease poster and one for a clinical poster. The recipients of these awards receive a $250 monetary award (for group entries, the award is split amongst members) and an additional award of $250 will go to the ACVP-recognized Student Chapter (if the recipient/s is/are a member of a Student Chapter). Awards will be announced at the ACVP Business Meeting on Tuesday, December 5, at the Annual Meeting in Tucson. Young Investigator Awards Poster CompetitionThe ACVP offers a Young Investigator Awards Poster Competition in four categories:
If fewer than 5 abstracts are submitted within a specific category, these abstracts will be combined with another category by the YIA Chair. Each of these categories will offer up to three monetary awards:
This ACVP awards program recognizes quality poster presentations by veterinary pathology residents and PhD candidates. The posters will be judged by College Diplomates representing several specialty groups, during the Annual Meeting in Tucson, Arizona on December 2-6, 2006. Individuals eligible for this competition must be veterinarians currently enrolled in a residency or graduate program in veterinary pathology or that have completed such a program after June 30, 2005. The poster must present original work of the competitor completed during the period of residency or graduate training. Undergraduate veterinary students still enrolled in a College of Veterinary Medicine are also encouraged to submit posters for the meeting, but they will be judged under a separate category and will be eligible for awards dedicated to student posters (for more information on student poster awards, see the information above. Abstracts must be submitted by June 1, 2006 to the ACVP website. A recipient can compete in both Starost and YIA competitions simultaneously.
