The Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences, Section of Clinical Pathology at Cornell University has a vacancy for 1 resident in Veterinary Clinical Pathology starting July 1, 2010. This residency program provides 3 years of advanced training in clinical pathology, designed to prepare candidates for a career in Veterinary Clinical Pathology and certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists.  Training will emphasize principles of pathophysiology and mechanisms of disease, interpretation of laboratory data, development of analytical and diagnostic skills, as well as principles and techniques of laboratory methods. The resident(s) will rotate through the relevant sections of the clinical pathology, pathology, and diagnostic laboratories. They will participate in journal clubs, rounds and seminars; present/publish case reports; and are expected to design and carry out original research projects. Residents also will participate in teaching clinical pathology to students. Studies are conducted under the guidance of our two ACVP board-certified faculty members.  The College of Veterinary Medicine is dedicated to furthering education and knowledge through scientific research. Ample opportunities exist for those candidates interested in pursuing advanced (PhD) degrees. A DVM or equivalent and 1-2 years of post-DVM experience or training is required. Beginning annual salary is $35,200, plus benefits. Continuation in the program is contingent upon satisfactory annual performance evaluations.
