Residency Training in Veterinary Anatomic Pathology. The Department of Infectious Diseases and Pathology at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Florida, has an opportunity for residency training in veterinary anatomic pathology beginning July 2010. The standard residency program is three years of training based on diagnostic casework from the Veterinary Medical Center and the private sector, in addition to multiple training seminars. Training is provided by seven board certified faculty with interests and specialties including exotics/wildlife/zoo, laboratory animal, oncologic, reproductive, respiratory and aquatic animal pathology. Residency training includes in-depth instruction on the pathology of diseases of horses, companion animals, laboratory animals, zoo/wildlife species and food animals. The focus is on preparing residents to pass the American College of Veterinary Pathologists’ certification examination. There is an option for pursuit of graduate training in experimental pathology leading to a PhD degree, after two years of residency training. Additionally, there is also an option after the second year for entry into a third year of residency in Zoo and Wildlife Pathology based at Disney's Animal Kingdom in Florida.
