Residency Training in Veterinary Clinical Pathology.
The Department of Pathobiology and Diagnostic Investigation at Michigan State
University is seeking applications for a three-year residency position in veterinary
clinical pathology beginning July 1, 2010. Training is provided by four
veterinary clinical pathologists who are diplomates of the American College
of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP). The clinical pathology laboratory
is part of the Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health (DCPAH) and
receives over 35,000 accessions per year. The lab has state-of-the-art
equipment including a Bayer Advia hematology analyzer, Olympus chemistry analyzer,
Nova blood gas and electrolyte analyzer, and STA Compact coagulation analyzer. Clinical
pathology residents will study and gain experience in basic pathogenic mechanisms,
hematology, clinical chemistry, cytology, urinalysis, immunologic testing,
molecular biology, and surgical pathology. Residents will participate
in the department’s teaching programs and have the opportunity to spend
time in the endocrinology, immunodiagnostics, microbiology, necropsy, nutrition,
and toxicology sections of the DCPAH. Completion of the clinical pathology
residency fulfills requirements for taking the ACVP certification examination. Subsequent
opportunities for pursuing a PhD degree depend upon availability of funding. Applicants
must possess a DVM or equivalent degree. Applications should include
curriculum vitae, official veterinary transcript with cumulative grade point
average and class standing, a statement of career goals, three letters of reference,
