Residency in Anatomic Pathology
The Laboratory of Pathology and Toxicology at the University of Pennsylvania,
School of Veterinary Medicine, has two positions in the anatomic pathology
residency training program available July 1, 2010. The 3-year position
is intended for the training of individuals for ACVP board certification. The
Laboratory of Pathology and Toxicology is a subdivision of the Department of
Pathobiology within the School of Veterinary Medicine. Other components of
the Department are the Laboratory of Avian Medicine and Pathology, the Laboratory
of Parasitology, the Laboratory of Microbiology and Immunology, and the University
Laboratory Animal Resources. There are 2 campuses served by the Laboratory
of Pathology and Toxicology, Philadelphia and New Bolton Center, the latter
located in rural Chester County, Pa. The New Bolton Center laboratory is also
part of the Pennsylvania Animal Diagnostic Laboratory system (PADLS).
The training program emphasizes the gross and microscopic pathology
of case material, including necropsies on animals submitted from
the veterinary hospitals (Philadelphia and New Bolton Center),
laboratory animals from research facilities at the University of
Pennsylvania, and surgical pathology specimens from both our hospital
caseload and referring veterinary practitioners. Trainees
also participate in weekly microscopic and gross rounds, and monthly
specialty rounds including ophthalmic pathology, neuropathology,
dermatopathology, laboratory animal pathology, and journal club.
The application deadline is November 13, 2009. Candidates will
be notified on or after December 1, 2009.
