Contact: Dr. Susan Tornquist Assistant or Associate Professors, Virology and Bacteriology The Department of Biomedical Sciences and the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, College of Veterinary Medicine, Oregon State University, are seeking two outstanding professionals (one Virologist and one Bacteriologist) with demonstrable achievements in research and teaching experience for full time, tenure-track appointments at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, beginning July 1, 2004. The College of Veterinary Medicine is undergoing major expansion with the construction of a new building and modern space for research. The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory is an AAVLD-accredited, full service facility, serving the Pacific Northwest. The Department of Biomedical Sciences houses the basic science and diagnostic faculty and curriculum of the College of Veterinary Medicine. Oregon State University is a Land, Sea, and Space Grant University, and is located in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. The University has strong departments of Biochemistry, Molecular and Cell Biology, and Microbiology with plenty of opportunities for collaboration. The successful applicants will have leadership roles in diagnostic and business activities of the Virology or Bacteriology Sections of the Diagnostic Laboratory. They will work closely with the laboratory section managers in providing diagnoses from case material, consulting with clients, and planning and implementing new diagnostic methodologies. The successful candidates will be expected to establish externally-funded research programs in either Virology or Bacteriology, preferentially in molecular microbiology and microbial pathogenesis. These candidates will also be expected to teach Virology or Bacteriology as part of the professional curriculum of the College. Applicants must have a DVM degree from an AVMA-accredited or equivalent institution and/or doctoral degree in virology, bacteriology, or related field. Diplomate status or eligibility by the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists is preferred. Diagnostic laboratory experience and the ability to communicate effectively with laboratory clientele are essential. Preferred qualifications include a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
