Mayo Clinic Arizona in Scottsdale, Arizona has an opening for a research veterinary pathologist. This position is a research faculty-level appointment at Mayo Clinic Arizona with a joint appointment in the Department of Veterinary Medicine. The position also includes the administrative directorship of the Laboratory Animal Resources Core (LARC). The Mayo Clinic Arizona animal facility occupies >10,000 sq. ft. and has an operating inventory of ~10,000 mice, 100 rats, 5-20 rabbits, and a small number of laboratory animals necessary for our surgical research programs. The current facility staffing includes a facilities manager, 8 animal care technicians, and a registered veterinarian technologist. A primary objective of LARC is to provide specialized services in support of mouse-based research activities by the intramural scientific community. These will include not only services for fee, such as the generation of transgenic and gene knockout mice, but also, education/training on the use of the mouse as a physiologic/biochemical model system of human disease. Research Resources and Services within LARC is supported by 6 full-time staff who provide services in four major areas of small animal research: (i) A mouse pathology laboratory providing assessments/interpretation of samples from experimental mouse models and implementation of a rigorous health surveillance program for the animal facilities; (ii) Laboratory of mouse genetics and gene transfer technologies that forms a functional group developing/generating transgenic and gene knockout mouse models as well as specialized mouse services such as an embryo cryopreservation, strain rederivation, genotyping, and the production/breeding of unique mouse lines; (iii) Transplantation and Flow Cytometry laboratory that includes an animal irradiator for adoptive engraftment and multiparameter flow cytometers for cell analyses and sorting. (iv) Polyclonal/Monoclonal Antibody Facility providing activities/services such as polyclonal antibody production in rabbits and the generation of monoclonal antibodies in mice, rats, and hamsters.

Requirements include a DVM degree from an AVMA-accredited institution or equivalent, and a minimum of 3 years postgraduate training and experience in veterinary pathology and animal facility management. Board certification by the ACVP or advanced degrees in a relevant field (MS, PhD) is desirable, but not required. Successful candidates will have experience and expertise in murine pathology as it relates to human disease; particular interest will be given to candidates whose research program has extramural funding. Appointment and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and a full benefits package is included. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
