Principal Veterinary Pathologist

The Veterinary Pathologist will play a key leadership role at Guidant. The broad-reaching responsibilities of this pathology position will encompass the analysis of the safety of implantable materials and devices in pre-clinical animal studies, human clinical trials, and post-market surveillance; evaluation of biomaterial and device safety for submission to regulatory agencies; and development and support of product evaluation methodologies and study protocols. The Veterinary Pathologist will be team oriented, possess a strong sense of diplomacy and demonstrated background of scientific strength, display confidence, focus and an earnest desire to enhance scientific growth with a strong sense of integrity. A thorough knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice regulations, ISO 9001 guidelines and AAALAC guidelines is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Construct new studies, methodologies and models
  • Ability to evaluate and interpret interactions between host tissues, biomaterials, device and drug therapies.
  • Provide consultation during early stage device development to minimize resources utilized and maximize relevant results.
  • Broad understanding of related differences to human applications and risk assessment.
  • Compile and complete accurate pathology data and write conclusive findings for reports and other regulatory agencies.
  • Generate interpretative evaluations of complex biomaterial and drug interactions and complications and inform necessary members of risks or hazards.
  • Assure process and procedures are in compliance with noted regulations.
  • Apply findings of research projects, tutorials and case studies to various print or media literature, conferences or forums.
  • Develop new design and format for evaluation tools and devices.
  • Work on large scale-problems that will impact design success or address future processes or technologies.
  • Work with senior management on developing and implementing innovative solutions to better define current methodologies
Qualifications:
  • Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologist (ACVP) or similar accreditation preferred.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Desire to stay current with industry trends and continuing educations with additional training and development
Education:
  • Must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, with a residency in Veterinary Anatomic Pathology or equivalent.
  • Ph. D is strongly preferred
