Laboratory of Comparative Pathology
Postdoctoral Fellowship in Comparative and Genomic Pathology
The Laboratory
of Comparative Pathology serving the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer
Center (MSKCC), Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC) and the Rockefeller
University (RU) is accepting applications for a1 year postdoctoral
fellowship in laboratory animal, comparative, and genomic pathology
for veterinary pathology trainees seeking to advance their knowledge
in these disciplines.
Fellows take advantage of the varied laboratory
animal case load and have access to state of the art necropsy facilities,
histology and immunohistochemistry services, as well as a fully equipped
clinical pathology laboratory performing various diagnostic tests including
hematology, clinical chemistry, parasitology, serology and microbiology.
Other specialty cores accessible to the trainee provide electron and
scanning microscopy, confocal microscopy, laser microdissection and
molecular cytology services. Participation in weekly conferences
and pathology rounds in association with the Animal Medical Center’s
Pathology Department as well as MD pathologists from MSKCC and WMC
is part of the training curriculum and helpful to those candidates
preparing for boards.
Responsibilities include performing gross
and microscopic examination of a variety of laboratory animal species
(mice, rats, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, pigs, amphibians, birds,
non-human primates, fish), and interpreting findings, preparing
reports, and communicating with staff veterinarians and/or research
personnel as needed. Scientific collaboration and publication are encouraged.
Supervision and support from three board-certified pathologists will
be provided at all times.
MSKCC, WCMC, and RU are located in close proximity to each other, as
well as the Animal Medical Center (AMC) on the East Side of Manhattan,
Staff include 3 ACVP board certified veterinary pathologists
and 6 laboratory animal veterinarians (5 of whom are ACLAM certified).
Interaction with AMC pathologists and laboratory animal post-doctoral
fellows, as well as veterinary pathology residents (during a variety
of seminars, rounds, and other regular presentations) is an additional
benefit.
The successful applicant must possess a DVM/VMD from an AVMA-accredited
or equivalent institution and have at least 2 years of formal anatomic
pathology training (such as a residency). Board eligible candidates
are welcome and board preparation time may be granted. Salary
is based on the NIH post-doctoral scale and commensurate with experience.
Expected start date is July 2010. Application deadline is December
15, 2009.
To apply, submit your curriculum vitae, transcripts, three
letters of recommendation, and a letter of application describing your
training background, professional interests and goals. Please e-mail
your application materials (scanned copy of transcripts) to Dr. Julie
White at whitej1@mskcc.org. Supporting paperwork can also be mailed
to Dr. White at 1275 York Avenue, Box 270, Zuckerman Research Building,
Room 931, New York, NY, 10065.
