Viral Immunology
The Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Pathology, College of
Veterinary Medicine, Washington State University invites applications
for a full-time, tenure track position in virology at the level of
Assistant Professor. This position is defined as approximately
70% research and 30% teaching. The start date is negotiable, and
may be as early as March 15, 2010. The successful applicant will
be expected to develop and maintain a productive research program in
virology or viral immunology. Research and graduate education
in the Department are focused on infectious diseases of domestic animals,
including zoonotic pathogens (http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/research_vmp/). The
Department values and encourages a highly collaborative research and
training environment. As a faculty member, the successful candidate
will be expected to be active in the postdoctoral and graduate training
program, including mentoring graduate students and serving as a member
of student advisory committees. The Departmental research programs
are enhanced by NIH funded training grants and are sited in excellent,
modern facilities on the WSU campus. A PhD degree is required
and preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated abilities
in attracting funding, conducting and publishing the results of hypothesis-based
research, and interest in high quality graduate education. The
teaching responsibility includes teaching and directing Veterinary
Virology, a core course in WSU’s professional veterinary medicine
curriculum. A DVM or equivalent degree is preferred. The
successful candidate will also be expected to work closely with other
teaching faculty in the department, and be actively involved in the
Department’s collaborative teaching efforts and be committed
to quality teaching. Furthermore, the successful candidate will
actively participate at the College level on curricula and other teaching-related
topics as well as the development of innovative teaching approaches. Preference
will be given to candidates with experience and a record of achievement
in teaching, and experience in teaching veterinary students, will be
