Major Duties:
- Extract implicit and novel information from complex and
large databases to characterize genes involved in the physiological
and/or pathological state following drug therapy. This is done by
integrating and synthesizing the information from databases with
bioinformatics tools as well as with statistical, partitioning and
visualization techniques. The goal is to find a profile or signature
for a treatment or for a side effect, to provide hypotheses for mechanistic
pathways, to propose potential biomarkers linked to mechanisms, or
to predict potential new therapeutic indications.
- Exploit to their
best the interactions between gene expression analysis ? localization/LCM
techniques and histopathology to support the concept of integrated
molecular pathology
- Possibly supports exploratory studies by histopathology
assessment.
- Interact with NIBR colleagues (TS and beyond) e.g., project
team representatives, study directors, pathologists?
- Prepare reports
and contributions to phase-transition and registration documents.
- Present
results to project team and management.
- Guide efforts to integrate
information from multiple functions (Pathology, PK/PD, modeling,
functional validation, and bioassay development).
- Mentor and train
new hires.
- Maintain a strong awareness of current methodologies through
participation at scientific meetings and reviewing current literature
in discipline and related areas.
- Continue scientific career development
as demonstrated by internal and external lecture presentations and
publication in reference journals.
- Maintain working knowledge of relevant
Novartis policies and procedures.
- Support NIBR and line function goals
and objectives.Education: MD, DVM or PhD in life sciences.
Extensive operational knowledge of histology and basic pathology.
Basic knowledge of molecular biology techniques and biomedical statistics
Experience: Significant scientific experience working in histology,
pathology or molecular pathology
Technical Ability: Experience interpretation of gene expression profiles
and integration in the context of a specific apthology/disease
Excellence in data summarization
Presentation: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Able
to present and defend data and to influence the decision process
regarding study design.
