The role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Research Scientist to support
our research program focused on the pathology of infectious diseases
in animals. You will lead a multi-disciplinary team of dedicated
scientists focused on research into the pathology of a range of viral
infections of livestock with a focus on zoonotic diseases.
The work
will be undertaken within the high containment laboratory of AAHL
and focused on diseases that do not currently occur in Australia
but represent a significant threat to man, animals or the environment
in the region. Whilst complying with strict microbiological security
requirements, you will be required to employ your veterinary knowledge
and expertise to protect the welfare of animals used within AAHL and
to provide scientific and technical support to a range of research
projects involving animals.
To be successful you will have
- A PhD in a field relevant to infectious disease research and
a veterinary degree registerable with Veterinary Boards in Australia
- A strong commitment to team-based science and outcomes
- Leadership experience in this field of research, and have contributed
substantially to scientific knowledge via publications and contributions
to learned bodies
- An ability to develop a strategy for future work in this area

The Research Division
This role will be based at the Australian Animal Health Laboratory
(AAHL) in Geelong, which is part of CSIRO’s Division
of Livestock Industries. The Australian Animal Health Laboratory is
a national centre of excellence in disease diagnosis, research and
policy advice in animal health, whose major role is to maintain Australia's
capability to quickly diagnose exotic (foreign) and emerging animal
diseases.
