Veterinary Pathologist/ Staff Scientist Position

The Veterinary Pathology Section (VPS) of the Rocky Mountain Veterinary
Branch (RMVB), NIAID, NIH has a staff scientist position available for
a veterinary pathologist with research experience. The position is located
in the Rocky Mountain Laboratories (RML), Hamilton, MT.
Description of Duties
VPS currently includes one American College of Veterinary Pathologists
(ACVP) pathologist and three full-time staff operating a well-equipped
and automated histology laboratory. The incumbent is responsible for the
following duties:

Planning, developing, and implementing a full array of pathology
services to support RML investigators, requiring detailed histopathologic,
immunohistochemical, and molecular analyses of tissue specimens of
both naturally occurring and experimentally infected animal models

Preparing and/or collaborating in the preparation of technical reports
on the results of investigations and studies, presenting results on
current findings at scientific meetings and conferences, and preparing
manuscripts for publication in scientific journals

Providing expert gross, histopathologic, and clinical evaluation
of animal tissues for the diagnosis and study of infectious diseases

Working in biosafety level 2 and 3 laboratories

Performing gross necropsies and working on experimental animal models
and pathogens in a biosafety level 4 facility

Providing professional
guidance and consultation to appropriate staff regarding anatomy,
physiology, pathology, veterinary care, and clinical diseases of
laboratory animals, including nonhuman primates
- Providing laboratory support for epidemic investigations associated
with zoonotic emerging infectious diseases and providing field guidance
and advice for proper collection techniques for specimens from animal
sources
Incumbent may conduct research of interest involving diseases of laboratory
animals. Board certification in anatomic pathology preferred.
