We are looking for a creative Research Pathologist to join a growing, dynamic team of investigative and translational pathologists within the Department of Comparative Pathology in Biogen Idec, Cambridge, MA.

In this role, you will lead and collaborate with basic scientists and clinicians to apply morphologic and molecular techniques to develop innovative therapies for devastating immunologic, neoplastic and neurologic diseases. Responsibilities will include establishing animal models and using human tissue or cell-based assays to define the mechanism of action and/or compound-related toxicity. Work will span from early drug development through developing translational biomarkers for compounds that have transitioned into humans.

To accomplish these objectives, you will work in a state-of-the- art laboratory equipped for histology, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, virtual imaging and morphometry with ready access to genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic technologies. You will also have exceptional technical support from a well-trained, experienced staff. Interaction with the internationally respected pathologists, scientists and toxicologists that make up the faculty of Biogen Idec will be a daily occurrence.

This is meant to be a non-traditional position in a non-traditional pharmaceutical company. Publication of research findings will be strongly encouraged. We are looking for a motivated person who enjoys science and who can function in a matrixed role across discovery, safety and clinics.

Qualifications

  • DVM or MD with relevant board certification and demonstrated post-professional research experience (PhD, publications)
  • 3+ years of experience in pharmaceutical investigative pathology is desirable.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills are expected.
  • Experience and proven ability to work with scientists and professionals from a wide variety of disciplines in a dynamic, project-driven environment
  • Desire to have impact on the development of novel pharmaceuticals
