Pathologist - Scientist
Responsibilities:
The Safety Assessment Department of Genentech is seeking a Pathologist-Scientist
with experience in drug development and investigative research. As part
of Development Sciences, Safety Assessment Pathologists at Genentech
provide scientific leadership and play an active role in the process
of drug development from late stage research through marketed products.
This role involves working in a collaborative team environment as part
of the comprehensive safety assessment of Genentech therapeutics by participating
on project teams and by providing expertise in areas of immunohistochemistry,
advanced microscopy and image analysis technologies in support of the design,
implementation and data analysis of both non-GLP and GLP investigative
toxicology studies.
Responsibilities will include interdisciplinary project team research
collaboration and leadership, design and conduct of investigative and mechanistic
studies involving immunohistochemistry-based methods, image analysis and
other advanced microscopy technologies. Functional area mentorship, management
of tissue cross-reactivity studies, peer review of regulatory studies and
representation of Genentech at meetings with regulatory authorities, as
needed, will also be components of this position.
Requirements:
This position requires a DVM, a PhD, board certification in Veterinary
Pathology and 4-6 years of experience in toxicologic and investigative
pathology. The candidate must have complex problem-solving, data analysis
and investigative skills. The individual must have demonstrated theoretical/practical
knowledge and technical abilities in molecular biology, immunohistochemistry,
advanced microscopy and image analysis method development and application.
He/she must possess the ability to work independently and leverage literature
to develop and optimize experimental methods. The candidate must have
excellent written and verbal communication skills. The capability to
build productive cross-functional collaborations both within and external
to Genentech is required.
