Faculty Position in Veterinary Clinical Pathology

The Department of Pathology, College of Veterinary Medicine at The University
of Georgia, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in
Clinical Pathology at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor from
individuals with a strong commitment to research and teaching. However,
applicants at the rank of Full Professor with a demonstrated record of
research and teaching excellence or from highly qualified individuals with
primary interest in teaching and service are also encouraged to apply.
The successful applicant will join a team that includes 17 pathologists
(including 4 clinical pathologists), anatomic and clinical pathology residents,
research scientists, and graduate students. Departmental centers of research
emphasis include pathogenesis of infectious disease in food-producing,
avian, and aquatic animals, molecular diagnostics, genomics and proteomics,
tumor pathobiology, neuropathogenesis of rabies, soft tissue physiology
and repair, laboratory animal pathology, and emergency preparedness. Within
the College of Veterinary Medicine (www.vet.uga.edu),
additional research programs include clinical research in oncology, emergency
and critical care medicine, canine arthritis, and equine colic. University
resources such as the high containment Animal Health Research Center (www.vet.uga.edu/ahrc),
the Biomedical and Health Sciences Institute (www.biomed.uga.edu),
and the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center (www.ccrc.uga.edu)
provide opportunities for collaboration in global infectious disease, epidemiology
and public health, developmental biology, neurosciences, stem cell biology,
and glycomic research. The Pathology Department is also expanding interactions
with nearby facilities such as the Centers for Disease Control, Emory University's
Yerkes Primate Center, the Atlanta-Fulton County Zoo, the Georgia Aquarium,
the USDA-ARS Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory, and the USDA Food Safety
and Inspection Service Laboratories. This outreach provides an additional
spectrum of diverse research possibilities.
Applicants must possess a DVM and PhD degree (or equivalents) and be certified
by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (or equivalent). Primary
responsibilities will be the development of a sustained independent or
collaborative research program and the teaching of professional students,
graduate students, and pathology residents.
The University of Georgia is located in Athens GA, a vibrant and diverse
community of just over 100,000 residents and is nestled in the wooded Piedmont
hills of northeast Georgia. Offering the amenities of a cosmopolitan city,
the surrounding area also affords a wide variety of recreation and entertainment
