Postdoctoral Fellow—Veterinary Pathology

The Drug Safety R&D Department in St. Louis has a position designed to provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to complete final preparation for the ACVP board certification exam and develop and execute a focused research project while learning how to perform hypothesis-driven research and apply cell and molecular pathology tools to understand pathogenic mechanisms and develop translational biomarkers. The candidate will use diagnostic skills to identify drug-induced toxicity and to characterize animal models of human disease. The successful candidate will also be able to learn and apply state-of-the-art cell and molecular pathology tools including immunohistochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, laser capture microdissection, image analysis, in-situ hybridization, immunoassay, cell culture, cell and protein fractionation, RT- / QPCR, gene array profiling, gene cloning, and RNAi technologies.

This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with a wide variety of scientific disciplines involved in the discovery and development of safe and efficacious drugs. The candidate will receive scientific mentoring from investigative colleagues. There is also the opportunity to take part in seminars and ongoing scientific collaborations with biomedical researchers at The Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, one of the nation’s top-ranked in NIH funded institutions. This position has the potential to support a PhD dissertation research project, in collaboration with the candidate’s residency training institution.

The qualified candidate will be a DVM (or equivalent) with 2-3 years of veterinary pathology residency training. MS or PhD is preferred, but not essential, along with strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary. The ability to work independently within a multi-skilled, integrated team is essential.
