VETERINARY PATHOLOGIST
TULANE NATIONAL PRIMATE RESEARCH CENTER
TULANE UNIVERSITY HEALTH SCIENCES CENTER
The Division of Comparative Pathology, Tulane National Primate Research
Center (TNPRC), Tulane University Health Sciences Center, invites applications
for faculty positions in Anatomic Pathology. The academic appointment
will be in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Tulane
Medical School. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate
with the applicant’s qualifications.
Minimum qualifications include a D.V.M. or equivalent degree and eligibility
to take the American College of Veterinary Pathologists certifying
examination. Preferred applicants will also have a Ph.D. and
a strong interest in establishing an independent research program. The
individuals selected will join a very active research group that includes
several NIH-funded faculty members and numerous collaborators, both
domestic and international.
Primary responsibilities of the position include: 1) participating
in the diagnostic service of the Division, 2) pursuing independent
research, 3) training anatomic pathology students for ACVP Board certification,
and 4) collaborating with other investigators on the design, implementation
and interpretation of diverse biomedical research projects. The
relative emphasis on each of these components is negotiable depending
on the applicant’s interests and expertise. Additional
duties include a commitment to the advancement of the Division and
the Center through participation in training of students and postdoctoral
fellows, participation in meetings and service on committees.
The Division of Comparative Pathology is actively engaged in several
areas of nonhuman primate research including AIDS and associated opportunistic
infections, malaria, Lyme disease, tuberculosis, and gene therapy. With
the completion of a new Regional Biosafety Laboratory (December, 2008),
new projects involving Level 3 pathogens and select agents will be
added.
The TNPRC has excellent infrastructure to support independent and
collaborative research including but not limited to flow cytometry,
confocal microscopy, and molecular biology core laboratories on site. Other
research Divisions at the TNPRC with which there is extensive interaction
include Microbiology, Immunology, Bacteriology and Parasitology, Veterinary
Medicine and Gene Therapy.
The Tulane National Primate Research Center is the largest of eight
NIH-funded National Primate Research Centers, and maintains approximately
5000 nonhuman primates for biomedical research benefiting humans and
animals. The Center is located approximately 35 miles North of
New Orleans, LA in a scenic rural community with excellent schools. The
TNPRC and the surrounding community did not suffer any significant
long-term effect from Hurricane Katrina.
To apply, send a letter indicating your research interests and experience,
a curriculum vitae, and the names of three individuals who may be contacted
