Degree and area of specialization: DVM, VMD or equivalent degree.
License/certification: Boarded or board eligible by/for the American College of Veterinary Pathologists.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience: Prior experience in nonhuman primate pathology (particularly macaques and common marmosets) preferred. Research experience and a PhD in virology, developmental biology, neurobiology, immunology, aging, or related fields are highly desirable. The candidate must have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

Principal duties:
The Wisconsin National Primate Research Center (WNPRC) is seeking highly motivated applicants with a strong commitment to research to fill the position of Veterinary Pathologist in the Pathology Services Unit. The WNPRC is an Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) accredited facility housing rhesus macaques, common marmosets, and cynomolgus macaques. The WNPRC is based in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Graduate School.

The successful applicant will work with a team of pathologists, research staff, clinical veterinary staff, and investigators at the WNPRC to provide research and diagnostic pathology services.

The primary duties include but are not limited to:

  1. Gross post-mortem and histologic evaluations of colony primates, surgical pathology, cytology, support of clinical pathology services, and on-call pathology service, in rotation with other pathologists.
  2. Consultation, review, and development of protocols for investigators both pre- and post-grant award and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) protocol approval, performance of specialized terminal procedures, and performance of routine and specialized histologic evaluations with interpretation of findings.
  3. Publication of information on: the results of collaborative research and/or independent research, new diseases, and new aspects of previously recognized diseases to improve the health of human and nonhuman primates.
  4. Participation in: National Primate Research Center (NPRC) primate pathology consortium activities, primate pathology conferences, laboratory animal medicine and pathology resident training programs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and rounds and meetings on the UWMadison campus.

A period of evaluation will be required
