Under the supervision of and with guidance from the Senior Director of Pathology, the successful candidate will provide veterinary pathology expertise to enable Biologics drug discovery at the Merck Research Laboratories in Palo Alto, CA. This position offers exciting opportunities for a highly motivated individual to develop a drug-discovery pathology service focusing on rodent models of disease using state-of-the-art facilities and working with highly skilled staff members. The pathologist will provide leadership for one or more core groups within Pathology, focusing on applying and developing cutting-edge histopathologic analysis. In addition, he/she will conduct or provide guidance for comprehensive gross and histological evaluations and interpret significant findings from laboratory small animal models. Scientific collaboration with research scientists in animal model development, research study design and analysis is essential. The pathologist will also serve as part of a multidisciplinary team of professionals who support quality laboratory animal care and use.
DVM/VMD degree or equivalent is required. Diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Pathology or the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine is preferred as well as specific expertise in anatomic pathology of laboratory small animals. Strong candidates without ACVP board-eligibility or certification but willing to concomitantly train in Veterinary Pathology will be considered. Knowledge of techniques used in laboratory animal model development and research is also required.
